Child Molestation Trial

December 11th, 2007

Acquitted

A Gilmer County Jury, after being in session less than one hour, acquitted Sandra Jones of all charges filed against her by the Gilmer County Grand Jury.

She was found not guilty on both of the charges of aggravated child molestation and child molestation.

The GBI and the Gilmer County Sheriff's department had caused warrants to be issued against her after they arrested Steven Rudy, who was accused of molesting several young juvenile girls. As an outcome of the service of a search warrant upon Rudy's home, the detectives found a tape depicting both Rudy and Jones in various sexual positions with a child in the room. After identifiying the participants, they arrested Ms. Jones.

The jury was shown the tape, which lasted approximately one hour and fifty minutes on the new giant screens in the courtroom.

Mr. Rudy, who was called as a witness for the state, had plead guilty to one charge of aggravated child molestation and three counts of child molestation. He subsequently pled guilty to all of the counts and was sentenced to 35 years, serve 25. Ms. Jones was acquitted. Ms Jones was represented by Edwin Marger and Charles Fulcher of Jasper.
